Letter from the President 

August 11, 2011

Dear Brooklyn Pediatrician,

As president of the Brooklyn Pediatric Society, I am extending an invitation for you to join us at our dinner conferences in 2011-2012 and to become a member of the society. We are excited about our program and hope that you will attend. I have outlined the schedule below.

September 14, 2011 is the date of our first meeting of the year. Dr. David Fagan, Chair of the AAP Committee on Bullying, will be speaking on "Recognizing the Bullied Child in Your Practice, and What to do Next". Dr. Fagan's presentation will provide insight to help us identify and help bullied children.

On November 16, 2011 we will hear from Dr. Julie Schaffer, Associate Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at NYU Langone Medical Center, who will talk about "Pigmented Lesions in Children-When to be Worried, and What to do about them".

February 08, 2012 and April 18, 2012 are the dates for the next two talks. The speakers and topics will be as exciting as the previous ones!

On May 09, 2012, we will wrap up the year with our Resident Night. Residents training in Brooklyn will present results of their research.

The Brooklyn Pediatric Society has provided a forum for colleagues in the borough to meet and discuss clinical, administrative and legislative issues for over 30 years. In addition, BPS is a member society of the local chapter of the AAP, and thus is the Brooklyn pediatricians' voice--your voice--in the AAP. Our meetings are held at the Bay Ridge Manor, 476, 76th st in Bay Ridge and include a conference and dinner. CME credits are provided to all attendees.

I am attaching the BPS membership form. Please fill it out and return it to Mary Gallagher with your membership dues. Your membership directly supports, and entitles you to attendance at, all our meetings this year. I also encourage you to contact Mary or myself with any questions or suggestions you may have about the activities and the role of the Brooklyn Pediatric Society.
